Farmers To March To Delhi On December 6

With the increase in the on-going protests. The farmers from Punjab came under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). They have declared their intention to march towards Delhi on December 6. This move aims to urge the Central Government to fulfil various demands. Their demands include a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops apart from various others.

Farmers Gather For Delhi Chalo March

The protesting farmers have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points. This place comes between Punjab and Haryana. For nearly nine months, farmers have maintained their presence at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points. They have been gathering ever since their initial ‘Delhi Chalo March.’ KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher expressed the farmer’s point of view to the media.  He expressed that the time for peaceful waiting has passed.

Sarwan Singh Pandher said, “We will move towards Delhi on December 6.”

“We have been left with no option. We waited peacefully for the government for nine months. But now we will head towards Delhi,” he further stated.

Farmers Are Protesting Since Last Nine Months

The farmers plan to march in groups from the Shambhu border, indicating a coordinated effort to make their voices heard in the national capital. Tejveer Singh from the Bharatiya Kisan Union highlighted the prolonged nature of their struggle. He stated that it has been 280 days since they have camped at the border.  The Centre has not held any talks with them since February 18. For this reason during a recent announcement, the farmers indicated that they would amplify their protests. During this protest’s tenure they would fast until death beginning from November 26. This hunger strike will be led by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal will observe the fast. This reflects the deepening urgency of their situation.

Besides the legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops, farmers are demanding a farm debt waiver, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases. They also seek “justice” for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation to the families of the farmers who died during a previous agitation in 2020-21.

This upcoming march signifies a pivotal moment in the farmers’ on-going battle. During this protest farmers will be seen fighting for their rights and livelihoods.
