Maha Kumbh 2025: More Than 1 Crore Devotees Anticipated for the Final Amrit Snan
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is nearing its end. The final Amrit Snan, scheduled for Mahashivratri on Wednesday, is expected to attract over 1 crore devotees. MahaKumbh 2025 began January 13, nearly 64 crore people have taken a dip at the Triveni Sangam — the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
To manage the overwhelming influx, the Uttar Pradesh government has made extensive security arrangements. The Amrit Snan will be a major event, with millions of pilgrims arriving from all corners. Security forces are on high alert to ensure a smooth experience for the devotees.
The local administration has organized special routes for the pilgrims. Phaphamau Ghat will accommodate those coming from Lucknow and Pratapgarh, while Arail Ghat is designated for people from Rewan, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Mirzapur. Given the high volume of visitors, the entire Mela area will be vehicle-free. Only vehicles with parking passes will be allowed in designated zones. Additionally, over 40 police teams on motorbikes will patrol all major highways and routes leading to Prayagraj to manage traffic flow.
Diversions have been set up to ensure safe and smooth traffic. Senior officials, including Additional Director General and Inspector General level officers, will monitor seven main roads that connect Prayagraj.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is the largest religious gathering in the world. Held every 12 years in Prayagraj, it draws millions of devotees who believe that a bath in the holy rivers during this period cleanses sins and grants liberation from the cycle of life and death.
At the beginning of the event, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath predicted a crowd of over 45 crore. By February 11, that figure had already crossed 50 crore. The anticipated number will likely exceed 64 crore by the end.
The Maha Kumbh is part of the larger Kumbh Mela tradition. The holy event rotates every four years at Haridwar, Ujjain, Nashik, and Prayagraj. The festival marks a deep connection to Indian spiritual heritage, as pilgrims gather to perform sacred rituals and celebrate their faith. As the event concludes, the Kumbh Mela leaves behind a legacy of devotion, unity, and spiritual awakening, with the final Amrit Snan promising to be a historic moment for devotees worldwide.
