Sankaragomathi got pregnant after her affair with Shankar and failed to abort. After pregnancy, Grandmother Indra set the child ablaze.

In a horrific incident, a newborn baby was set ablaze alive allegedly by his own grandmother in Tamil Nadu, India. The incident took place in Sankarankovil area in Tenkasi. It is reported that the family didn’t want the newborn baby to be alive. According to the police, a woman named Sankaragomathi was pregnant and tried to abort the baby after taking two pills.
The woman had an affair with a man named Shankar and wanted to abort the baby. However, the medication didn’t work and the baby was born around 2 am on Wednesday. The baby’s grandmother, Indra allegedly wrapped up the child in clothes and took it to a nearby theater and set the toddler on fire.
The incident came to light when passerby’s saw fire on the road and when they stopped to look at it, were shocked to have found the body of the half burnt baby, which was already dead.

They immediately informed the police who came to the spot along with a sniffer dog. The dog ran into a house which is about 300 metres from the spot which helped the police unearth the horrific incident.The police initially suspected the baby was stillborn but upon investigation, it is revealed that the baby was alive and it was set ablaze by Indra.
After the case came to light, Indra has been booked under section 315 (act done to prevent a child from being born alive or cause it to die after birth) and Shankar has been booked under section 109 (abetment of an offence)
Meanwhile the 22 year old woman Shankaragomathi has been taken to a government hospital as she appeared weak after delivery. The police briefed the media that further investigation and probing would be done once the woman recovers.
