Prime Minister Narendra Modi stresses on a self-reliant India in his address to the nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation stressing on a self-reliant India and spoke in length about the government's initiative to help the poor and marginalized community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on June 30. The Congress on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his address, calling it unsubstantial and it could “just have been another government notification”. The party also said the prime minister is too afraid to talk about China in his national address.

In his speech, PM Modi announced the extension of PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna till November end, supplying free ration to 80 crore people who can avail 5 kg of free food grains. The PM said the budget of this scheme will cost over 90,000 crores.

The Prime Minister also said despite the increased number of Covid-19 cases, the country is still in a very stable position due to timely action taken by the government. However, he also said ever since Unlock 1.0 started in the country, carelessness in personal and social behaviour has been increasing on a daily basis.

The PM’s address came as the government is preparing for Unlock Phase 2, which will begin from July 1, where there will be relaxation in night curfew, guidelines will be issued for more domestic flights and trains, and clearance for more than five people in a shop.

The Prime Minister on Sunday in his Mann Ki Baat radio programme had reiterated the nation’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity and had asked the citizen to not take negligent steps as the economy reopened.

The PM also had paid tribute to 20 soldiers who attained martyrdom in violent clashes with chines troops on June 15 in Galwan valley and asserted that Indian soldiers have given a befitting reply to those who cast an evil eye on its soil.

“Those who cast an evil eye on its land in the Ladakh have got befitting reply. India honours the spirit of friendship and also has the nerve to give an appropriate answer to any misadventure, without shying away. Our brave soldiers have proven that they will not let anyone cast a distasteful eye on its glory and honour of Mother India,” he had said.

The prime minister also said that the “entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder in paying tributes to the bravery of our soldiers who attained martyrdom in Ladakh” and added that “the whole nation bows them in reverence, with gratitude.

The PM’s stand for homemade products, Modi said that the transformation of the country into a self-reliant one will be a true tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in deadly clashes with Chinese troops. “Our pursuits and endeavours should be in a similar direction,” he said, adding that “we should steps towards for the enhancement of the country’s capabilities and capacities in safeguarding our borders.

The PM stressed that “A self-reliant India would be a true tribute to our soldiers who attained martyrdom in the deepest sense. He further added that “India’s solemn resolve is to guard her honour and sovereignty” and to be self-reliant. “India’s culture and tradition is trust and friendship. India’s spirit is brotherhood.”
