The TMC leader, including MPs Derek o’brien and Pratima Mondal, was treated ill by UP police at Hathras border when they were on their way to meet the family of the hathras gang-rape victim. The incident came into headline after congress MP Rahul Gandhi was pushed to the ground by UP police.

The TMC delegation was stopped at the Hathras border and roughed up by the police as they refused to turn back. TMC MP Derek O’Brien was reportedly pushed to the ground by police officers while two women leaders of the party were allegedly hit. While interacting with media, TMC’s Mamata Thakur briefed the whole incident and said that they were going to meet her family but unfortunately not allowed.

She added that when the party members insisted, the women police personnel pulled at their blouses and lathi-charged at their MP Pratima Mondal. She fell down. The male police officers touched her. This is shameful.

Reportedly, before the manhandle broke out, TMC leaders tried their best to persuade the police to allow them to meet the victim’s family with folded hands, wearing face masks and holding placards reading “Beti Bachao? Beti Jalao? Shame (save the daughter? burn the daughter? shame)”.

Meanwhile, one of the TMC MPs was quoted as saying by the party, “We are peacefully proceeding to Hathras to meet the family and pay our condolences. We are travelling individually and maintaining all protocols. We are not armed. Why are we stopped? What kind of jungle raj is this? That elected MPs are prevented from meeting a grieving family. At this moment, we are just 1.5 km from the victim’s home in Hathras.”

A statement being recorded said that a delegation of Trinamool MPs have been stopped by UP Police from entering Hathras. The delegation had travelled about 200kms from Delhi. For the uninformed, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday were arrested by the UP Police after they were stopped from marching towards Hathras to meet the family members of the Dalit woman allegedly raped by four men on September 14.
