Results Of Assam HSLC, HS Board Exams To Be Announced By July 31 Said Education Minister Ranoj Pegu

Assam HSLC, HS Board Exams: Assam state government has cancelled High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC), Class 10 and High School, Class 12 final exams this year. This decision has come after keeping in view the Covid situation and consulting stakeholders, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said.

To decide the evaluation criteria for Class 10 and Class 12 students, two committees will be formed, the minister said.

This year, around 7 lakh students of Class 10 and Class 12 was supposed to appear for their board exams.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. The representatives of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), and the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) attended the meeting.

The formulation of evaluation criteria will be given within a week and results will be announced by July 31, Pegu added.

Earlier this week, the Assam Cabinet had recommended that HSLC and HS exams will not be held considering the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic condition in the state.

Along with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), 18 other state boards had also cancelled board exams for Class 12 students earlier.

Ever since the news has been announced regarding the cancellation of Board exams, Assam students did not sit silent. They cited their genuine problems and moved the Supreme Court seeking directions for the cancellation of their board exams.

The CBSE on June 17 submitted its assessment plan of Class 12th in the Supreme Court of India. Following this, the SC issued a notice to eight states, including Assam which was yet to decide on Class 12 exams.

Earlier this month, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the exams will take place in mid-July of two-state education boards – Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC)– if the Covid positivity rate in the state drops below 2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has decided to close all schools in Assam even after the summer vacation in the state. Not just that, the government has also asked the authorities to take steps to conduct online classes, an official said on Tuesday June 15.
