America’s top medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails related to COVID 19 pandemic exchanged with government, foreign, and domestic health officials, reporters, celebrities, and some Americans have been leaked. Over 3,000 pages of emails have been acquired by two leading media organizations through a lawsuit filed under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Fauci’s Leaked emails, dated from January to June 2020 reveal his stance on the COVID19 pandemic, vaccination, and effectiveness of wearing masks. The 80-year-old doctor of the National Institutes of Health and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in a controversial email to a woman said that she could travel without a face mask if she was going to a low-risk location. His email meant, “Wearing face masks is not effective against Covid-19.”

From advertisements to doctors, it has been advised that wearing masks can help in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and it is mandatory for everyone. But in February 2020 Fauci’s email exchanged with a former US health secretary pointed out that masks are for infected people to prevent them from spreading the infection to people who are not infected, rather than protecting uninfected people from getting the infection.

In addition to this, he stated that the store-bought masks are not really effective in ousting the virus. The reason is that the COVID-19 virus is small enough to pass through the material.

The Wuhan Lab Theory

During the initial days of the COVID-19 outbreak, Dr. Fauci claimed the virus might have leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. Many experts quashed the claims by saying it was ‘extremely unlikely’ as there was no evidence to support the argument.

The theory is once again in the limelight after a criticism row over an international agencies probe into the virus’ origins and new reports of Covid-related illness in the region weeks before it was officially identified were highlighted.

In a January 2020 email, the director of the country’s largest biomedical research facility suggested Dr Fauci there are unusual features of the virus, symbolizing that it is ‘engineered’. Replying to this, Dr. Fauci said he will reach out via phone.

Whereas in April 2020, the director of the National Institute of Health, Francis Collins, poked Dr Fauci in an email with the subject line saying “conspiracy gains momentum”. The response of Dr. Fauci was completely redacted.

In May, Dr Fauci claimed that he is not convinced that the virus was originated naturally and expressed support for the investigation.
