Netflix Users Cancel Subscription After Deal With Meghan Markle, Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's new deal with Netflix has led some fans to cancel their subscriptions with the streaming service.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped down from royal duties earlier this year for a new life of financial freedom in America, have struck a multi-million pound deal with Netflix to make their own shows. But some people took to Twitter and claimed they were cancelling their subscriptions after Meghan and Harry’s deal was announced.

One Twitter user wrote: “May well cancel my subscription to Netflix ..” Another tweeted: “Cancelled Netflix. Not paying one penny to them.” A third fumed: “Not only will I not be interested in anything they have to say I will cancel my subscription!”Another hit out: “Watch them on Netflix? I’d rather cancel my subscription.”

However, on the other hand, a few viewers were delighted that the Queen’s grandson and the ex-Suits star would be making films and series for Netflix. One Twitter user thanked Netflix for the deal with H&M.

In a statement, Meghan and Harry said they will be producing a range of content that “informs but also gives hope”. They said: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple has allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, and shining light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

The Sussexes added that they were “pleased” to be working with Ted Sarandos, co-chief executive officer and chief content officer of Netflix, and his team “whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action”.
