Pakistan will be a global host of World Environment Day 2021.
World Environment Day 2021 will be celebrated on June 5 across the world. The value of the ecosystem is not new, in fact with each passing day, it has been evolved with various synonyms of its contribution.
Preservation of the environment is necessary for our survival to combat the vulnerabilities that are attached. It is vital to understand the evolving needs of our ecosystem that have been neglected by various forms of man-made disastrous efforts or natural calamities.
From the use of chemical fertilizers to large-scale deforestation doe constructions, over the years, our ecosystem has been a victim of deranged activities. A report titled the “State of Finance for Nature”, highlighted the main stakeholders who need to come into the picture to uplift future climatic activities.
Released by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), the report stated that the public and private actors need to scale up their annual investments by at least four times.
It is necessary to meet future climate, biodiversity, and land degradation targets. It also noted that by 2050, a total investment of nature needs will amount to USD 8.1 trillion, while annual investment should reach USD 536 billion annually by 2050.
‘Ecosystem Restoration’ is the theme of 2021. This year, Pakistan will be a global host of World Environment Day. The event will observe the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration
The history of world environment day can be traced back to the days when the UN General Assembly officially recorded World Environment Day (WED) as one of the important days in 1972. This happened after a series of discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. The discussions took place during the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Just after two years, the first day was celebrated with the theme ‘Only One Earth’.
From 1974, the celebration of World Environment Day was held annually. Then in 1987, a decision was taken that the activities should be rotated in order to give a chance to different countries to host it.
