Solar Pumps For Rural Irrigation In Tripura

The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has set an ambitious target of installing 10,000 solar-powered pump sets under the PM Kusum scheme. The government has taken this decision to ensure reliable irrigation for rural farmlands. This initiative aims to benefit farmers across the state, particularly those in rural areas, by promoting sustainable farming practices.

TREDA has already made significant progress by installing 3,616 solar pumps. These pumps have brought 7,232 acres of farmland under assured irrigation, directly benefiting 3,616 marginal farmers. The solar pumps have been vital in helping farmers overcome irrigation challenges. They are useful especially in areas where traditional water sources are scarce.

Ongoing And Upcoming Installations

Currently, 5,051 solar pumps are under installation. The agency is also taking steps to expedite the process of installing the remaining 2,264 pumps. Once completed, the total number of solar pumps in operation will increase, ensuring that 21,790 acres of farmland receive reliable irrigation.

Support For Farmers

The PM Kusum scheme provides subsidies to farmers for the installation of solar-powered pumps. These pumps offer a sustainable solution for farmers, enabling them to access irrigation without relying on conventional power sources or water resources. If farmers lack a water source for irrigation, they are provided with additional support under the scheme to install the necessary infrastructure.

With reliable irrigation systems in place, farmers can increase crop production. This will directly impact rural economies by enhancing agricultural output. The state government’s efforts under the PM Kusum scheme are designed to help farmers in Tripura achieve better yields and improve their livelihoods.

Looking Ahead

As the project progresses, the state government plans to continue its support for farmers. The goal is to provide solar-powered irrigation to as many farmers as possible. This in turn will ensure that they have the resources needed to thrive fruitfully. With a long-term vision of sustainable farming, this initiative aims to transform the agricultural landscape in Tripura.

Through these efforts, TREDA is not only addressing the immediate irrigation needs but also contributing to the broader goal of promoting renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices.
