Assam Governor Inaugurates Livestock and Poultry
On Sunday, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the “Livestock and Poultry Expo-2025” at Khanapara. The event was organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, providing a significant platform for farmers and entrepreneurs to display their produce. It focused on promoting self-reliance and innovation within the state’s livestock sector.
Governor Acharya highlighted the importance of expos like these in empowering farmers and young entrepreneurs. He noted that the event coincided with Bhogali Bihu, a festival symbolizing prosperity, which made it all the more special. This expo, he said, serves as a reminder of the growing potential in Assam’s livestock and poultry industries.
The Governor acknowledged India’s significant progress in dairy production. He pointed out that milk production has increased by 57.62% in the past nine years. India’s annual growth rate in dairy production stands at 6%, well above the global average of 2%. This growth, he emphasized, is a result of targeted efforts and government initiatives aimed at empowering the agricultural sector.

Governor Acharya commended the Assam government’s commitment to building a self-reliant state. He referred to the “Assam Dairy Development Scheme,” which aims to increase milk production to 1 million liters per day. He expressed confidence that this goal would soon be achieved, thanks to continuous efforts from the state government.
The Governor urged the youth of Assam to explore opportunities in livestock and poultry farming. He encouraged them to take advantage of the various government schemes designed to support the agricultural community. He also emphasized the broader vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), aligning Assam’s growth with national progress.

The Public Health and Engineering Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Krishnendu Paul, and Assam Livestock and Poultry Chairman Manoj Saikia were the ones attending the event. Other notable attendees included Principal Secretary Manish Thakur and Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Anil Ch. Deori.
