Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin Marries Her Long Time Partner In Intimate Ceremony

The millennial leader of Finland announced her marriage with her long time partner, Markus Raikkonen on Instagram.

Finnish Prime Minister, Sanna Marin has married her long time partner, Markus Raikkonen in an intimate ceremony with guests made up of only family and close friends.

Ms Marin 34, who is the country’s millennial leader announced of their marriage on an Instagram post. The couple have been living together for sixteen years ever since they met each other at the age of eighteen.

Sharing a sweet photograph of the couple posing by the lakeside, Ms Marin wrote ”she is happy and thankful to share her life with the man she loved with whom she has experienced the heights of sorrows and joys together. She further wrote that they grew together and grown older to be with their bellowed daughter and that she counts Mr Raikkonen being the ‘right person’ and thanking him for being by her side.

Ms Marin in the photograph was seen wearing and ethereal gown and her brunette locks with a floating veil on the back of her hair. Holding a boquet with cream peonies and foliage, she posed with a candid smile with her partner, Raikkonen being by her side in smart classic tuxedo.

The Finnish government in its statement mentioned that the wedding was held in the prime minister’s residence which is a picturesque seaside villa . The couple’s permanent residence is at Kaleva in Tampere district. They have moved to the prime minister’s residence in Helsinki ever since the pandemic broke out.

Ms Marin is a member of Finland’s social democratic party and was appointed prime minister on 10 December 2019 becoming one of the youngest head of state. Growing up in a rather unconventional family where her mother, after ending the marriage with her father, raised Marin with her female partner.

Marin recounts of being ‘silent’ as she was rather shy to open up about her growing up in an unconventional family during her childhood. She never thought of being in politics. However, her affiliation with Social Democratic youth wing during her high school shifted the gears for her.

At first, she experienced an unsuccessful election contest for the City council of Tampere. She broke the jinx in her second attempt in her 2012 campaign winning her position and within two months was elected as chairperson. She rose through the ranks in the city council between 2013 to 2014.

In 2015, She was elected MP to the parliament of Finland and then served as Minister of Transport. In December 2019, she was nominated as the Prime Minister of Finland after the resignation of Antti Rinne thus becoming the youngest female head of the state and becoming the youngest prime minister of Finland’s history,

Ms Marin, who has been active on social media and a keen advocate of environmental issues garnered around 141,544 likes on her Instagram post.
