Assam: Kamakhya Temple Closed For Two Weeks Due To Surge in COVID-19 Cases

Assam has recorded 5657 new cases of the COVID-19, taking up the positivity rate to 8.85%.

Kamakhya Temple closed for next two weeks

The Kamakhya Temple authority Wednesday announced that it has decided to close the temple for all devotees from today, May 13, 2021.

The temple authority in the notice mentioned that due to the ongoing COVID situation in the state, the Kamakhya Temple, as well as other places for offering prayers in the Kamahya mountain region, will be closed from May 13 for the next 15 days as directed by the government in Assam.”

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) recently released an additional SOP stating that all religious places shall remain closed for 15 days.

But, the religious heads or his representative may perform minimal religious rituals or prayers during closure in their respective religious institutions.

On Wednesday, May 12, Assam recorded 5657 new cases of the COVID-19, taking up the positivity rate to 8.85%. As many as 63,956 tests were conducted, out of which 40,970 are active cases. The death toll due to COVID-19 stood at 71 in the state.
