Fire Rages In Coronavirus Hospital Killing 8 Patients In Ahmedabad

The fire broke out at 3:30 am and a probe has been ordered by the Chief Minister.

A blaze of fire took place early in the morning at 3:30 a.m. in a private hospital of Ahmedabad. It is reported that the private hospital has around 50 Covid-19 patients. As far, 8 victims are reported dead by the fire in Shrey Hospital, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad. These 8 victims were treated in the ICU of the designated hospital. Among these 5 were men and 3 were women.

Soon after the fire broke out, 10 ambulances and 8 fire engines rushed to the site. It is further reported that 45 patients were rescued and shifted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and rest of the patients were shifted to a Civil Hospital in the city.

The Prime Minister condoled in his tweet, “Saddened by the tragic hospital fire in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to CM @vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor @ibijalpatel Ji regarding the situation. Administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected”.

The hospital has been sealed and the probe into the incident has been ordered by Vijay Rupani, the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The probe will be headed by Sangeeta Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department). The Chief Minister has ordered for a report of probe within three days by Mr. Rupani’s office. Sources said, “the blaze broke out because of the short circuit and bodies of the dead have been sent for the postmortem.”

“Ex-Gratia of Rs 2 lakh rupees each from PNRF would be given to the next of Kin of those who have lost their lives due to the Hospital fire in Ahmedabad and Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured patients ,” PM Modi said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also consoled by his twitter message,”Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire accident at a hospital in Ahmedabad. My condolences and thoughts are with the affected families in this hour of grief. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

In this Pandemic, 14,680 patients are reportedly affected by Covid-19 and 1,070 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. 1,057 patients have recovered from the disease and 23 people lost their lives after struggling with Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
