Ganesh Chaturthi: Maharashtra government has issued new guidelines regarding Ganesh visarjan, keeping in mind the protocols for Corona outbreak. The government has launched a website through which online booking for the immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh has been started.
Coronavirus outbreak has effected almost every festive season. As soon as Ganeshotsav is about to come, the enthusiasm amongst the devotees is also increasing. In lieu of this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released new guidelines regarding Ganesh immersion.
Now the devotees have to book the slot online for Ganesh immersion (visarjan). The association has started a website for the same. The devotees have to book their slot on www.shreeganeshvisarjan.com. The devotees will have to specify the date and time for the visarjan, and BMC further will scrutinise the slot and application.
The Ganeshotsav is considered as a holy festival in the Hindu community. It is a ten-day-long Hindu festival celebrated to honour Ganesha’s birthday. Ganesha, the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is believed to be the lord of wisdom and intelligence in Hindu mythology.
The ritual is done to signify the birth cycle of Lord Ganesha. Likewise, he was created from clay/Earth. The idol is immersed in water so that Ganesha may return to his home after his ‘stay’ at the devotees’ home or temple where the Ganesha Chaturthi rituals are conducted
Every year around 50 lakh people gather to immerse the idol. Amid the novel Coronavirus, BMC this year has taken strict actions by limiting the crowd. Maharashtra is the hotspot of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. And in Mumbai alone, the count reaches to more than 19,000 active cases.
