PM Modi launches RuPay Card phase-2 in Bhutan

RuPay Card phase-2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched on Friday the Rupay card of phase two in Bhutan with his counterpart Lotay Tshering. While launching the card, the Bhutan National Bank can be used at ATMs for Rs 1 lakh and for Rs 20 lakh at point-of-sale terminals. While launching the card, the Bhutan National Bank can be used at ATMs for Rs 1 lakh and for Rs 20 lakh at point-of-sale terminals.

At the launch, the Prime Minister said, “This would make tourism, shopping and other transactions easier for Bhutanese tourists in India.”

He added that he felt happy to know that there have been 11,000 successful Rupay transactions in Bhutan already. Had Covid not happened, this number would have been much higher. We are launching the Phase II of the RuPay Card scheme.

Highlighting the importance of framework for India and Bhutan relations, PM Modi said the framework has been signed by both countries for Peaceful Usage of Outer Space. This will help institutions in both countries and improve co-operation. Recently, after opening its space sector for private enterprises to promote capacity, innovation and skills.

On the Third International Internet Gateway, PM Modi welcomed Bhutan’s agreement with BSNL.

Thanking PM Modi for India’s leadership skills in tackling Covid-19 pandemic, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said, “We’re thankful to you and your government for the assurance to make the vaccine available for Bhutan, once it is ready for clinical use.”

Lotay Tshering added, “The Excellency’s (PM Modi) leadership in tackling the pandemic at home is highly commended.”

He also expressed his assurance on India’s capability to overcome the pandemic strongly.

Praising India, he added India is a source of hope for all of us in developing vaccines.
