Former RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh Passes Away At AIIMS Delhi

Veteran RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, the man behind NREGA was the expert in the rural and agricultural sector, dies today after complaining of breathlessness.

Veteran RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has passed away on Sunday at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He was 74. He was reportedly admitted for about a week after developing post-COVID complications.

Mr Singh tested positive for COVID-19 in June, after which he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna. According to the news agency, his condition worsened in a flash over the past two days and was transferred on a ventilator. He died at around 11 in the morning after complaining of breathlessness.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh had been a devoted loyal member of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, the tables turned off when rumours about mafia don turned politician Rama Singh, his rival in Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency, made him resign from the post of the national vice-president. For the uninformed, he resigned from the primary membership of the party on Thursday following with an open letter.

As soon as the news of the demise of the politician came, many politicians paid tribute to his death, including the PM Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who at the inauguration ceremony of the launch of petroleum projects in Bihar, began his speech by paying tribute to Mr Singh.

The Prime Minister in his speech said that Raghuvansh Prasad Singh’s demise has left a void in the political sphere of Bihar as well as the country. He urged CM Nitish Kumar to fulfil the wishes of Mr Singh that he penned down in his last letter.

Besides PM Modi, CM Nitish Kumar, while collecting himself, penned down the very emotional note, which said, “Dear Raghuvansh babu! What did you do? I told you the day before yesterday, you are not going anywhere. But you went so far. I am speechless. I am sad. Will miss you very much.”

The politician of nearly for 40 years, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was widely regarded as an expert in his works. His notable works included the conceptualisation and implementation of the NREGA. The was the Union Minister for Rural Development in the Congress-led UPA-I government. He too served as Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, as well as Food and Consumer Affairs.
