India's digital economy gets a boost as Sundar Pichai announces US$10 Billion to help the country accelerate its IT and SME infrastructure.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced US$ 10 Billion digitization fund to help accelerate India’s digital economy during a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ”This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy,” he said painting a positive picture for India’s IT industry.
Google released a statement saying the investments will be divided into four sections. “They are helping PM Modi in supporting his vision by using the fund in the next 5 to 7 years through equity investments and tie ups.”

The search engine giant marked one of the biggest commitments in the Indian growth market. The fund will be utilized by helping residents for their unique needs by helping them in building new products. Secondly, it will help digital transformation by empowering their business. Thirdly, by enabling and access to information for every Indian in their own language.
Lastly, in the areas of health, agriculture and education by purchasing artificial intelligence and Technology for social good. Pichai also pointed out that all small and medium sized business ”are now discoverable” on Google maps and more than 150 million users every month use maps for driving connections.

Earlier today, PM Modi tweeted he had “An extremely fruitful interaction” with Mr Pichai. “We spoke on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of Technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
In another post PM Modi tweeted to Mr Pichai, “The importance of data security and cyber security as the work culture has completely changed in this pandemic situation”. He further discussed the global challenges in the area of sports in the emerging times of Covid-19.
