The eminent brand Goya received criticism after the CEO of the Hispanic food giant lauded American President Donald Trump during his address at the White House.

Robert Unanue, Chief Executive of the family-run merchandise, attended a White House round table with Hispanic business and political leaders Thursday afternoon. As soon as his speech went on air, his admiration for President Trump didn’t go down well with netizens and received backlash as they took to Twitter and castigated him for calling Donald Trump “an incredible builder”.

A video that irked people was released from the White House that showed him saying, “We are all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder and that’s what my grandfather did. He came to this country to build, to grow, and to prosper. We have an incredible builder and we pray for our leadership, our President, and we pray for our country that we’ll continue to prosper and to grow.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls to boycott Goya Foods as the CEO praised Donald Trump

Twitterati called out Goya’s CEO for standing with Trump and hashtag #BoycottGoya started trending in no time, demanding the closure of the brand. One agitated user wrote,”@GoyaFoods I used a lot of your products. Not any more. You made a choice. You chose evil, hatred, bigotry, immorality, and lies. Kindly go phqyrslf. Adios, Goya Foods. #BoycottGoyaFood #BoycottGoya.”

Another unnerved user wrote,”@GoyaFoods Trump has been a course for Latinos since his electoral campaign. Your CEO’s statement is a misrepresentation and betrayal of we, the people who made you the multimillion-dollar company you are: #BoycottGoya” added another user.

Another disappointed user noted, “True. 4th generation #BoycottGoya supporter. Let’s just keep putting pressure on our friends and family not to support #BoycottGoya. The Hispanic dollar will not support this racist trash company over time.”

#BoycottGoya trends on Twitter

There were many who demanded that Goya should be boycotted unless the CEO himself appears with an apology statement for his display of inclining towards president Trump. Another user tweeted in all caps, “I BELIEVE THAT GOYA SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR SHOPPING LIST UNTIL THEIR DOUCHE-BAG CEO APOLOGIZES AND RETRACTS HIS STUPID, REPUGNANT AND OBSEQUIOUS LINE OF THINKING!!! #boycottgoya”

Many prominent Hispanics such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Julian Castro, chef Jose Andres and CNN commentator Ana Navaro were quick to respond and called out for a boycott of a multi-food outlet which specializes in Latin American cuisine and staples.

There were many on Twitter who started circulating recipes for Abodo, in order to substitute it with Goya’s product. A user wrote, “I always chose @GoyaFoods for all I cook. So disappointed and sad at what I heard today. I’m in mourning but hey @BadiaSpices are good and hopefully ethical. #boycottgoya”

On the other hand, there were many who were calling for replacement brands in order to wipe away mega brand Goya. “Hispanic/Latino community are also victims of constant racism and are our sisters/ brothers in the #BLM. I will stand with them to #BoycottGoya. Please everyone start listing other replacement brands that do not support this racist monster in office. #Goyaway” added another.
