International Yoga Day: World celebrates

International Yoga Day: In India and across the world international yoga day is celebrated on June 21. It has many benefits of practising the art. Yoga day is being celebrated since June 21, 2015. Yoga is an invaluable gift which we have received from our ancient traditions. According to a report in a leading media website, Modi picked June 21 as the special day to celebrate because this is the longest day in the Northern hemisphere.

This year our country and throughout the world are fighting against the pandemic situation of COVID-19. So, this year theme which is picked for international yoga day 2020 is yoga for health- yoga at home. Yoga is a powerful tool and helps in relaxing and deals with the stress of uncertainty and isolation which further promotes physical well-being.

Ministry of Ayush, Government of India is focusing especially to practice yoga at home- yoga with the family to encourage people so that they can remain healthy. This session will be led by a trainer and it will be telecasted on Doordarshan at 6:30 a.m. onwards. Moreover, the ministry of Ayush and Indian council of cultural relations have jointly announced the video blogging contest which aims in transforming the lives of individual by yoga.

Other cities, like Mysuru district administration, is organising an event in association with yoga federation of Mysuru. Even Dharmasthala (Karnataka) through the activity, the day is celebrated on the theme of yoga from home at 7:00 a.m. on 21 June.

According to the online resources of All India Radio, the Dutch army and police personnel will also showcase yoga arsenal virtually in the Netherlands on Sunday in the view of restrictions due to COVID-19.

The opening ceremony and virtual session will briefly be remarked by Assem. P. Mahajan, the consul general of India in Houston through CGI Houston Facebook page and on the Facebook page of India house.
