Police have arrested 23 people in connection with the violence of Manipur killings.
Protests After Manipur Horrific Violence
Tensions boiled over in Delhi as over 300 Meiteis, including young boys and women, took to the streets at Jantar Mantar on Monday due to Manipur killings . The protest begin as the alleged killing of three women and three children by Kuki militant groups took place in Manipur‘s Jiribam district.
Organized by the Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC), Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSAD), the Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS), and the women’s group Nupi, the demonstrators called for immediate action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the escalating violence in Manipur.
The demonstrators demanded urgent intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The protesters wanted the leaders to address the on-going unrest in Manipur. Protesters called for decisive actions to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Following the initial demonstration, the protesters attempted to march to Amit Shah’s residence at 6A Krishna Menon Marg. The protesters were hoping to deliver a memorandum outlining their demands of Manipur killings . However, Delhi Police intervened, detaining them before they could reach their destination.
Wahengbam Premjit, general secretary of the DMCC, led the rally, stating “In the wake of a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Manipur, we urgently call upon the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Ministry of Women and Child Development to respond decisively and uphold their duty to protect the lives of their citizens. “
He further added “The horrific abduction, brutal assault, rape, and murder of six innocent Meitei civilians, including women and young children, by Chin-Kuki militants, has exposed devastating gaps in security and governance, leaving the people of Manipur in a state of profound grief, fear, and disappointment”
The protest aimed to highlight the deteriorating security situation in Manipur. It also focused on the government’s perceived failure to protect its citizens amid ongoing ethnic tensions. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the victims were abducted from a relief camp supposedly under the protection of security forces before being taken to the Barak River, where their ordeal ended in horror.
Adding to the violence, militants reportedly attacked security forces. This includes camps manned by CRPF personnel, during their rampage. In retaliation, 11 militants were killed by CRPF.

Clashes between the Kukis and Meiteis erupted in May last year. The clash was sparked by Kuki protests against demands from Meiteis to be given official tribal status. This clash would make them eligible for affirmative action and other benefits. Following this situation, the state has only witnessed months of violence and unrest.
Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur. This has been wracked by ethnic violence for more than a year and a half. It is seen that PM Modi has not visited the state since violence erupted last year. The protests begun after Kukis protested against the inclusion of dominant Meitis as a Scheduled Tribe. This is what makes them eligible for government affirmative-action programmes.
Rahul Gandhi took to his X account and posted “The recent string of violent clashes and continuing bloodshed in Manipur is deeply disturbing. After more than a year of division and suffering, it was the hope of every Indian that the Central and State governments would have made every effort at reconciliation and found a solution,”
He further added, “I urge the PM once again to visit Manipur and work towards restoring peace and healing in the region.” Moreover Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting on the situation on Sunday. Even after several discussions the state remains on the edge of war.

Police have arrested 23 people in connection with the violence of Manipur killings. Furthermore the authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew. Moreover all the connections were chopped off and internet services were suspended in Meitei-dominated Imphal Valley and Bishnupur districts.
