Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference said former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be given new responsibilities.
Sarbananda Sonowal: Assam chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is all set to give new responsibilities to former Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal taking into consideration his past experience with state and centre.
This announcement was made by new Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference. However, Sarma said that he is unaware of the party leadership’s plans for Sonowal.
Himanta Biswa Sarma and ex Assam Chief Minister Sonowal had their last meeting with BJP president J P Nadda. According to Sarma, Nadda had told him and Sonowal that while Himanta will become the chief minister for the next five years, Sonowal will be given new responsibility.
Himanta believed that the central leadership will take a decision about Sonowal, said in a press conference. This statement has come after speculation that the Sonowal may be inducted into the cabinet of the Narendra Modi government at the centre.
He said Sonowal’s past experience as a former chief minister is valuable and definitely be used for the party.
Sarma also pointed out that there are many ways to assign responsibilities. Prime minister is a responsibility, so is being a chief minister or a central minister or a district president of the party, he further adds.
Sarbanand Sonowal is an MLA in the Assam Legislative Assembly and a former Chief Minister of Assam. From 2014 to 2016, Sonowal has also served as Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India. Following the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election, he was elected as the first Chief Minister of the state from Bharatiya Janata Party.
Born on 31 October 1962, Sarbanand Sonowal hails from Muluk Gaon located in the Dibrugarh district of Assam to Jibeswar Sonowal and Dineswari Sonowal. After completing his BA(Hons) in English from Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College under Dibrugarh University, he did his LLB from Gauhati University Law College.
Himanta Biswa Sarma is the present Chief Minister of Assam.A former member of the INC. On 23rd August 2015, he joined the Bhartiya Janta Party after serving Indian National Congress. He is also an MLA from the Jalukbari constituency in Assam. From 2001 till 2015 he was elected as an MLA of INC. From May 2016 he was chosen as a member of BJP.
