Kendriya Vidyalaya might not follow the New Education Policy guidelines for medium of instruction due to teachers being transferred to various parts of India.

Kendra Vidyalaya Sangathan has released a notification on their official website regarding recruitment of teachers. Kendriya Vidyalayas won’t change Medium of Instruction in local languages till 5th Grade as per the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Some changes in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was recently announced by HRD Minister, DR. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, which include modifications like, introduction of local languages, because the medium of instruction till class V (5th Standard) in both Government & Private schools which makes students easy to understand.

There is mixed opinions regarding New Educational Reforms but 80-90 per cent of individuals find it justified. “Since most of the training happens within the maternal language, we ensured that wherever possible, the medium of instruction until a minimum of Grade 5, but preferably till Grade 8 and beyond, are going to be the house language/mother-tongue/local language/regional language” – a tweet shared by HRD Minister.

Focus on Regional and Multi-langauge

As some modifications within the New Education Reforms has taken place, it focus more on the local/regional language. Consistent with NEP, Home Language is typically an equivalent language because the maternal language or that which is spoken by local communities.

However, in multi-lingual families, there are often a home language spoken by other relations which can sometimes vary from maternal language or local language. But consistent with preferences (wherever possible), the medium of instruction are going to be the mother tongue untill Grade 5 and ideally for Grade 8 and beyond, there’ll be the house language/mother tongue/local language/regional language.

Thereafter, the home/local language shall still be taught as a language wherever possible. This may be followed by both public and private schools and for the essential text books and therefore the high-quality textbooks, including science, are going to be made available in home languages/mother tongue.

This step is taken to make sure that there’ll be no barrier of language between a teacher and a student. In cases where home language/mother tongue textbook material isn’t available, the language of transaction between teachers and students will still remain the house language/mother tongue wherever possible.

Teachers are going to be encouraged to use a bilingual approach, including bilingual teaching-learning materials, with those students whose home language could also be different from the medium of instruction. All languages are going to be taught with top quality to all or any students; a language doesn’t got to be the medium of instruction for it to be taught and learned well.

Difficulties Faced By An Establishment In Recruiting Teachers

Since KVS teachers are recruited at PAN India Level, it might be difficult for Kendriya Vidyalayas to recruit and post teachers supported the maternal language of the precise region. It becomes easier for college kids to speak if this language barrier gets removed and therefore the teachers and students is on an equivalent page of exchanging thoughts with one another.

Also, KVS teaching posts are transferable jobs and it might be difficult to try and do the posting of teachers on the idea of the language during which they will teach their subject at primary level or til 5th Grade.

There is attention on two primary languages (with one other language for a few classes) that was taught in KVS i.e. English and Hindi The Education System under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) follows the practice of three Language formula during which English & Hindi Languages are taught to students from 1st to 12th Standard and Sanskrit is being mandatorily taught from 6th to 8th Standard.

All of the three languages are being studied by lot of scholars within the school. it might be difficult to recruit teachers for the language opted by few selected students within the school as there’s a choice of choosing Hindi and Sanskrit language from class 9th to 10th.
