Assam Government: The Assam government is all set to bring two-child policy legislation during next month’s budget session of the state assembly to enforce it widely.
The law of two children will be applicable to only those who’ve government jobs and welfare schemes, official sources said.
On being asked about the plans for the law, minister Pijush Hazarika said that the state government is presently working on the details of the two-child policy. They are also looking forward to ideate ways to implement it. However, nothing has been finalised yet.
They’ve already implemented the policy in case of Panchayat elections but now they’re extending it to state government jobs, Assam government beneficiary schemes. This is how they’ll expand the policy. But the finalisation of modalities are yet to be done.

Currently, Assam has a two-child norm along with requirements of minimum educational qualifications and functional sanitary toilets. As per an amendment in 2018 to the Assam Panchayat Act, 1994,
two child norms are applicable if a person is contesting in the Panchayat polls.
In the previous week, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that there will be a gradual implementation of the two-child policy in state-run welfare schemes.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 11 requested the Muslims to adopt decent family planning in order to bring down poverty and social problems. He also hoped that the community would come together to respect the government’s stand.
He addressed a press conference to mark the completion of the first month of his government.
On being repetitively questioned regarding encroachers of land, Sarma urged the organisations like the All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) and the opposition party, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to work towards population control.
He also pointed out that he is not against any community or section and that he wants to focus on the development of everyone.
